Sebago Marks 80th Anniversary With Made in USA Docksides

Sebago is celebrating its 80th birthday with a slate of activations and products to honor its history in footwear.

Taking it back to where it all began, the shoe company has launched a Made in USA capsule collection featuring its signature Docksides boat shoes. The style, which was entirely manufactured in the United States, and is offered for men in two colorways and crafted from premium full-grain leather.

Alongside the footwear, the capsule is completed by a selection of leather accessories—coasters, a planner cover, a key holder, and a valet tray—all made from leather and produced in the United States using traditional artisanal processes.

Sebago noted that the “Made in USA” line is available as a limited edition on Sebago.com and in a selection of mono-brand stores in Italy, France, and Spain. The accessories will also be available exclusively at the London store.

Sebago is also taking its birthday milestone celebrations on the road with its new boat tour across Europe. At the heart of the initiative is a boat built in the shape of the Docksides boat shoe that will sail along major European waterways during key moments in each city’s cultural calendar.

The tour kicked off in Milan last month, where the boat navigated the Navigli canals from April 21 to 26, coinciding with Design Week. It will then continue to Amsterdam, before arriving in Florence from June 16 to 19 during Pitti Immagine Uomo, and finally reach Paris, sailing along the Seine from June 23 to 28 during Men’s Fashion Week.

At each stop, the arrival of the shoe-boat will be accompanied by moments of celebration with the local community, dedicated activations and events, as well as amplifying its anniversary capsule collection.

What’s more, the brand has launched the third volume of its editorial project dubbed the Sebago YearBook. Described as “a visual and textual journey that leads into the authentic atmospheres of Maine,” the company is weaving together stories rooted in local traditions and evocative descriptions of the iconic places that have shaped the brand’s identity. This is done through images, testimonials, and storytelling, the company noted.

“Our 80th anniversary marks an important milestone,” Lorenzo Boglione, chief executive officer of BasicNet Group, the parent company of Sebago, told FN. “A highlight of the celebrations is the Sebago Boat Tour, featuring a custom-built boat inspired by our iconic Portland Docksides boat shoe —the style that made Sebago globally recognized – which will travel across some of Europe’s most iconic waterways during key moments of the fashion calendar.”

The CEO added that he’s also proud to return production close to Lake Sebago in Maine for the anniversary capsule. “It’s both an exciting challenge and a great source of pride for the brand,” Boglione added.
