Nike ACG Introduces Lightweight Zegama Hike Boot

A few months into its relaunch, Nike ACG is expanding its performance-focused purview into hiking with a new silhouette rooted in running.

The Nike ACG Zegama Hike borrows the DNA of the trail running shoe of the same name for a mid-cut, lightweight boot. A high-stacked, dual-layer midsole features ZoomX foam with a formula tuned to the trail sitting directly underfoot and cradled by a more rigid foam for durability and stability. Further down, a Vibram Megagrip outsole promises traction on wet and dry surfaces and provides a wider base to keep its wearer in control while going downhill.

“Zegama Hike is disruptive for all the right reasons, bringing the best of Nike innovation into hiking and delivering a holistic system that puts the athlete’s needs at the center,” Brenden McAleese, Nike ACG Footwear director, said in a press release. “ACG is doing what the brand does best: dreaming up performance gear wrapped in ACG-only magic.”

Rubberized overlays with reinforcements at the toe and heel target durability on the upper, and a strap runs down from the second-highest eyelet and back toward the heel. A snug gaiter also hugs the ankle while providing comfort.

To test the Zegama Hike, ACG sent it out with hikers throughout the world for journeys up to 10 hours.

The Zegama running shoe went through two iterations under the Nike Trail line before the announcement that it’ll move to the ACG banner for the release of its third during the summer. For its sixth iteration, the Pegasus Trail likewise made the same move and just released earlier this month.

To coincide with the announcement of the Zega Hike, ACG has offered some clarification on its mission by outlining the categories of its apparel and footwear. Apparel is framed around conditions with the Aireez collection catering to UV protection, Misery to moisture and both Wolf and Lava to the cold. Footwear is sorted by the level of cushioning, as the Ultrafly and Pegasus Trail fall under responsive cushioning and the Zegama Trail and Zegama Hike under maximum cushioning.

The Nike ACG Zegama Hike will release in July through the ACG website and select third-party retailers. Pricing has not yet been announced.
