BMW Championship Preview

The second of three playoff events is here, and the PGA Tour is in Colorado. The Top 50 players in the FedEx Cup standings will play the 8,130-yard par-72 Castle Pines Golf Club course. However, the ball will travel much farther, as the course is 6,200 feet above sea level.

Defending champion Viktor Hovland appears to be returning to form after a rough season of ups and downs with his swing. He tied second with Xander Schauffele at the FedEx St. Jude Championship to jump 41 spots in the standings.

Do not count him out because Hovland’s getting more consistent. He could win back-to-back BMW Championships. After his performance in Memphis, the former Oklahoma State Cowboy is trending in the right direction.

Hideki Matsuyama held both guys off to win the first playoff event. He fell apart on the back nine of TPC Southwind, but two birdies at 17 and 18 were enough to win his 10th PGA Tour event. That victory also pushed him to No. 3 in the points.

Scottie Scheffler snuck in a Top 5 finish despite not having his best. He is among the favorites this week to win.

Rory McIlroy looks to rebound from an atrocious performance in Memphis that saw him finish T68. Maybe it was a rude awakening for him, and he will be back to his usual self in Colorado.

Nick Dunlap snuck into the Top 50 with his T5 finish in Memphis. He is one to watch out for because he is long off the tee and has a lot of confidence right now. Ludvig Åberg was quiet in Memphis, but this track fits his game. Watch him make some moves and get to Atlanta for the first time.

This week will be another competitive gauntlet to see who can move up the standings and secure a spot inside the Top 30.

Stay tuned for Round 1 and 2 Tee times.
