SIGHT LINE: Elie Saab has inked a license agreement for the design, production and distribution of its eyewear with Italy-based specialist Ophy Eyewear.
The three-year deal, which can be renewed, was announced Thursday by the fashion house.
It is part of its “continued evolution in expanding its offering across fashion and accessories, reinforcing its vision of a fully expressed luxury universe,” it said in a statement, adding that “eyewear naturally extends the Elie Saab woman’s wardrobe, defining her expression and completing her total look.”Â
“This partnership reflects our shared commitment to excellence, innovation and timeless elegance,” said the brand’s chief executive officer Elie Saab Jr. “Ophy Eyewear’s know-how and market understanding will support the strengthening of our presence in the global luxury eyewear segment.”
The new offering, which will span optical models and sunglasses, will make their debut on the runway during the Elie Saab spring 2027 show in October. According to the fashion house, 70 percent of the eyewear will be women-focused models while the rest will skew more unisex. Previously, its eyewear was under license with Safilo.
Placido Minissale, founder and CEO of Ophy Eyewear, said the agreement reflected “our commitment to delivering products that express both artistic sensitivity and technical precision.”
Launched in 2018 in Sicily by Minissale, Ophy Eyewear started as a brand and grew to develop, produce and globally distribute its own collections as well as licensed ones. It also develops and produces a proprietary Proper brand and has a partnership with Borsalino for a co-branded collection.
