Dennis Basso’s Palm Beach Affair

PALM BEACH AFFAIR: Dennis Basso has a rule about trunk shows, which he has been staging for decades in the most glamorous settings.

“Whenever we do a trunk show, we have a dinner, and the ladies we know host them, and friends and friends of friends are invited,” Basso said.

On Monday night, Basso along with Aerin Lauder, Danielle Ganek, Alexia Ryan, Sara Handreke, Rena Abboud and Karin Luter hosted a seated dinner at Club Colette in Palm Beach, Fla., for a crowd of 60. The tables were adorned with candlesticks and vases from Basso’s blue and white Hotel du Cobb tableware collection, sold exclusively on QVC. “Many of the women arrived in the Dennis Basso spring collection,” Basso said.

The trunk show for Basso’s collection was held Monday and Tuesday at Aerin Lauder’s Palm Beach boutique, which sells beauty, fashion accessories and home decor, and is situated just off Worth Avenue, at 33 Via Mizner. “It’s a store with French doors that lead to a secret garden and patio where we held the trunk show,” Basso said. Asked what sold best during the trunk show, Basso cited his long chiffon dresses in prints and solids, embroidered lace cocktail dresses, and fur boleros in sable and ermine.

“Our next trunk show will probably be in Beverly Hills in the fall, and in the winter, probably in Saint Moritz,” Basso said, adding that Gais, Switzerland, is also a possibility. “I’ve been in business for 40 years and trunk shows have always been a very big part of Dennis Basso,” the designer said.
