Cynthia Erivo channeled subdued elegance in Givenchy by Sarah Burton for her Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) investiture at Windsor Castle in England on Tuesday.

The Oscar-nominated “Wicked” star‘s ensemble was cast in a black tone and included nods to feminine design and tailoring in equal measure. Erivo wore a fitted, long-sleeve jacket with statement shoulders and a high neckline with a subtle black and white stitch motif.
The double-breasted jacket included buttons at the waist and the cuffs. A peplum element added juxtaposition and played with proportions at the waist. Along with the jacket, Erivo wore a layered tulle skirt from the French luxury fashion house.

Designed with a maxi hem, the skirt added movement and femininity to the overall look. Gray square-toed heels were added to Erivo’s special ensemble, and a hat by milliner Stephen Jones, featuring a small floral motif with orange petals, completed her attire.
As for glam, Erivo turned to makeup artist Joanna Simkin, while artist Shea Osei curated the look of the artist’s nails. Jason Bolden styled Erivo’s investiture look.

Following more than 20 years with Alexander McQueen, 13 of which she served as creative director, Sarah Burton was appointed to the creative director position of Givenchy in 2024. In 2025, the couturier was the recipient of the WWD Honor for Womenswear Designer of the Year.
“At Givenchy, there is the tailoring, there is the dress, the silhouettes, all the things that I love about what I do in the house already. And also there is his love of the clients and the women that he [Hubert de Givenchy] dressed,” Burton told Miles Socha, international editor of WWD, in November 2025.

“He had a real relationship with Audrey Hepburn or Bunny Mellon. So for me, there’s a parallel there. I love being a dressmaker.…I really love dressing women,” Burton said.
