Teasers have given way to an official announcement for Steven Victor’s two Nike Air Max Dn8s.
The Victor Victor x Nike Air Max Dn8 “New York” and “Tokyo” are both rooted in the record executive’s love for cars. A green, purple and blue gradient appears in a gradient through a warped grid overlay on the former colorway, and the outsole carries green, red and blue dots representing the progression of lights shown during acceleration on a Ferrari steering wheel. More specifically, the sneaker is inspired by the Ferrari 488 Pista Speedform, the car of Victor’s that was shouted out by Pop Smoke in the song “Shake the Room.”
Appearing in silver, gray, and blue, the “Tokyo” colorway pays homage to Nissan and JDM Racing. Victor said in a Complex interview he’d always wanted a silver Skyline, and the “Victor” text beneath the translucent outsole replicates that of the radio display on the Nissan Maxima, his first car. Both colorways come with a hangtag of the Victor Victor dog logo in a racing helmet, as well as elements with the pattern of carbon fiber, a material popular in both athletic sneakers and performance vehicles.
A number of other small details differ between the two sneakers, giving collectors ample to pore over.
The two Dn8s will mark the debut sneaker release for Victor Victor, the music label with a strong merchandising arm bolstered by its Nigo-designed logo. Last year, Victor Victor made a collaborative Air Force 1, but it was exclusive to friends and family.
Nike‘s second Air Max Dn silhouette has also been on a prolific run of collaborations recently, as editions from Patta, Cav Empt and Better Gift Shop all released this summer. The original Air Max Dn sneaker became the first Nike x Lego sneaker to release last month, albeit only in kid’s sizing.
The Victor Victor x Nike Air Max Dn8 “New York City” will first release Saturday through an invite-only party in Brooklyn, followed by a wider release Sept. 13. The “Tokyo” edition will then launch Sept. 15 exclusively in Japan. More specifics on the releases, as well as the price, have yet to be confirmed.
