This spring, Tony Yayo dropped the news that G-Unit’s most iconic Reebok sneaker would return to stores for the first time ever this summer. And with the season now underway, concrete details have now been confirmed for the highly anticipated comeback.
The G-Unit x Reebok G6 will release in late August in its original white, red and blue color scheme. Official images give the first look at the reissue, which appears true to form for the model’s 2003 run.
A white leather upper is hit with four rows of perforated striping at midfoot, a red, white and blue stripe badge closer to the toe box and a gray suede toe tip. “G-Unit” is embroidered on the lateral heel, and the striping motif repeats on the mustache and a metal lace dubrae reading “G-6.” Rounding out the shoe is a translucent blue outsole, beneath which another “G-Unit” text hit appears.
Together with Jay-Z‘s S. Carter line launched in the same year, G-Unit’s sneakers made for a landmark moment in the crossover between hip-hop and sneakers. Back in 2014 with Revolt, 50 Cent said his shoes outsold Jay-Z’s on a 6-1 ratio and generated $80 million for him personally in the lifetime of the deal.
“When we started selling shoes, the G-Unit shoes and Sean Carter shoes, that was a response to losing the bidding war to LeBron [James],” 50 Cent told Power 106 in 2012. “[Then-chairman and CEO Paul Fireman] decided to do lifestyle branding. He brought me, Jay-[Z], Daddy Yankee, and a few other people in.”
The G-Unit x Reebok G-6 will release Aug. 20 through JD Sports, with close timing likely coming through Reebok’s website and other third-party retailers. Pricing is set at $130.
