Pierced footwear had an unexpected surge in popularity over the past year and a half, thanks in large part to namesake designer Tory Burch, who introduced the edgy silhouette in her spring 2023 collection. And the look undeniably has staying power, as more and more celebrities are endorsing it — the latest being Zoey Deutch. On Thursday evening, the actress wore the luxury label’s black patent leather pierced boots for a screening of Netflix’s “Nouvelle Vague” at the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles.

Priced at $625, the shoes featured high-shine two-tone metal hardware that wraps the toe and threads through the silhouette, evoking the look of an ear piercing — as well as a toe ring. A cushioned leather footbed added practicality to the pointed-toe boot, as did a sturdy 65mm block heel. Though black seems to be the most sought-after choice, Tory Burch’s sculptural pierced boots are available in a dark brown suede style as well. Meanwhile, the pierced silhouette is also offered in flat mules, 60mm heels and wedges.
Deutch paired the statement-making shoes with a long black draped dress with a side cutout, also courtesy of Tory Burch. The “Not Okay” star doubled down on the pierced look, carrying the New York-based brand’s red pierced bag, which debuted in its spring 2025 collection. Deutch rounded out the ensemble with chunky gold earrings, which she showed off by tucking her shoulder-grazing hair behind her ears.

Tory Burch unearthed the pierced accessories trend, as the look isn’t necessarily new. The silhouette first rippled through fashion almost a decade ago, with JW Anderson pioneering the trend with its pierced bag. Now, brands like Lado Bokuchava, Cult Gaia and Reformation are capitalizing on the pierced craze.
