Zoe Saldaña’s Balmain Peplum Look Brings Sharp Structure to Paris

A sharply structured bodice set the tone for Zoe Saldaña’s latest “Avatar: Fire and Ash” premiere look on Friday night.

The actress’s black Balmain dress opened with an off-shoulder bodice formed from angular, overlapping panels, each densely worked in black beading that created a rigid frame across the neckline and upper torso. Those panels pushed outward into a pointed peplum before narrowing again into a long black velvet column skirt. The matte velvet skirt extended straight to the floor, and a back slit showed off her Saint Laurent La Scandale satin-crepe platforms.

Saldaña finished the look with Cartier Libre Polymorph earrings and a matching ring. The look was styled by Petra Flannery.

The appearance followed a string of dramatic looks across Saldana’s “Avatar: Fire and Ash” press tour. At the film’s Los Angeles premiere earlier in the week, Saldaña arrived in a Saint Laurent gown with a one-shoulder draped silhouette and bold slit. For the Paris photocall on a few days later, she shifted into a sculptural leather ensemble from Balenciaga spring 2026 — a funnel-neck jacket from the house’s latest collection paired with black trousers and Cartier jewelry.

Her Balmain silhouette also joins a handful of recent looks pushing peplums back into circulation. At the end of November, Jenna Ortega wore a structured halter column with a satin-framed waist and peplum when the Marrakech International Film Festival opened. In London earlier that month, Kate Middleton opted for a black-and-white Alessandra Rich peplum dress with lace edging for the Festival of Remembrance at Royal Albert Hall.

With its angular bodice and velvet column, Saldaña’s Balmain look sits comfortably within the recent wave of engineered waists and structured volume on winter red carpets, marking one of the more sculpted entries in her “Avatar” press wardrobe.
