Frank & Eileen is getting the celebrity treatment. The beloved style brand recently unveiled the very first item in its spring-fall 2025 capsule collection in collaboration with actress Julianne Moore, marking the start of the House of Frank & Eileen design program geared towards partnering with iconic women and creating clothing directly inspired by their stories. The item in question? A sophisticated yet easygoing button-up that channels “French It-girl” vibes and truly defies age groups.

The Waverly Button-Up Shirt is an overachiever in the most effortless of ways, making it a tough act to follow (Moore’s collection will be released incrementally, via curated drops from March through October 2025). The shirt is crafted out of luxe, 100-percent Italian cotton which is cool to the touch; has an intentionally longer shirttail for some trendy asymmetry; and boasts an overall tailored fit that’s universally flattering. You can wear it any which way, but Moore went two sizes up for an extra dose of effortlessly cool, relaxed style that pairs perfectly with the denim she donned in Frank & Eileen’s campaign imagery. For spring, we also recommend pairing it with a teensy camisole (only one or two buttons closed!) or else giving the corp-core treatment to a little black dress for the ultimate date night look.

The specific aesthetic both Moore and Frank & Eileen went for in this case is rooted in all things NYC: a place that the actress, author, and entrepreneur considers home. “In order to move around New York City quickly, you need to be on foot or take the subway, both of which I do daily,” Moore told Frank & Eileen in an interview. “I don’t want my wardrobe to restrict my movement, but I want to look chic and appropriate.”

Indeed, living in the city means embracing a basic, timeless capsule wardrobe, and nothing says “basic” quite like a versatile poplin top. We’ve seen it sported by everyone from Kendall Jenner to Emily Ratajkowski to Taylor Swift (and Princess Diana was also a fan of incorporating it into casual ensembles), so it’s safe to say “basic” in this case is not a synonym for “drab,” so long as you style the closet must-have in the most effective ways.

Frank & Eileen was launched in 2009 with (you better believe it!) a button-up shirt as its hero product. Founder Audrey McLoghlin deemed it fine time to finally reinvent this staple with women in mind, and she sourced the finest Italian menswear fabrics to do just that. Since then, the brand has expanded into jeans, dresses, sweaters, outerwear, made-for-travel sets, and beyond — leaving no leaf unturned in its quest to ideate and execute styles that flatter and uplift all women, while adhering to the principles of slow fashion and exclusively utilizing made-in-Italy materials. Its button-ups remain fan-favorites, though, and are worn by everyone from Oprah and Reese Witherspoon (who’s even been spotted in one on the show “Big Little Lies”) to Jennifer Garner and Meghan Markle.

Frank & Eileen prides itself in having a leadership team that is fully female, not to mention supporting the efforts of educating female entrepreneurs of the future. Its newest concept is the aforementioned House of Frank & Eileen: a community design house and platform through which the company will collaborate with female figures we all know and love to create new pieces “designed by women, for women,” according to its site.

Moore is Frank & Eileen’s inaugural partner in this initiative, and we absolutely can’t wait to find out what other influential women will follow. In the meantime, we’re buying the Waverly Button-Up in multiples — for ourselves and all the strong females in our lives — to infuse upcoming spring outfits with a kind of classy, urban sensibility.
