Do you want a Tesla Cybertruck, but you don’t want to wait for it? I’ve got good news for you, Trump voter: If you order a Cybertruck right now, you can get it in as little as a week. If you go on Tesla’s website, it’ll show that both the Cybertruck All-Wheel Drive and Cybertruck Cyberbeast can be delivered to you “Nov – Dec 2024.” That’s like… right now.
All you need to do is put down $250 and you can either lease, finance or buy a Cybertruck in cash, and it’ll be in your driveway before your president can do a January 6 just for fun. This is definitely good news if you’re the type of person who wants a Cybertruck, but it’s definitely bad news if you’re Tesla.
Back in October, we reported that Tesla was “basically finished” with Cybertruck preorders after working through all (alleged) one million reservation holders in less than a year. Now, all that’s left are folks who want a Cybertruck that didn’t preorder one. From the looks of it, that isn’t very many people since Tesla will be able to get you your very own stainless-steel monstrosity well before Christmas.
In the third quarter of 2024, Tesla sold over 16,000 Cybertrucks in the U.S., which is the model’s main market. That brings the total number of Cybertrucks sold through the first three quarters of 2024 to about 27,000 units. It was actually the best-selling vehicle over $100,000 for most of the summer with an average transaction price of $111,018, but it seems that boom is ending.
Further evidence of this lack of demand for the Cybertruck is Tesla’s massive price cut. In August, Tesla raised Cybertruck prices to $99,900 for the AWD truck and $119,990 for the Cyberbeast. Since then, Tesla cut prices to $79,990 and $99,990, respectively. With Tesla’s inconsistent pricing structure, I wouldn’t be too surprised if those prices drop even further.
One can only assume this is going to really hurt resale values of Cybertrucks as well. Early reservation holders were able to flip their trucks for double MSRP, but those prices have quickly come down, and now I cannot imagine anyone paying a premium for a truck they can get in just a couple of weeks. Who knows, though? Tesla stans aren’t bound by logic.
