Sydney Sweeney brought method dressing to the 2025 Met Gala red carpet on Monday. The actress wore a custom Miu Miu gown made of a black sequined fabric, featuring a modest train, short sleeves with fringe detailing on one side, and a distinctive asymmetric cutout at the chest.

Styled by her longtime collaborator Molly Dickson, the actress was paying homage to Hollywood star Kim Novak, famously known for starring in Alfred Hitchcock’s 1958 psychological thriller “Vertigo.” Novak wore a similar dress in “The Legend of Lylah Clare” from 1967.

Sweeney is set to portray Novak in the upcoming film “Scandalous.” This film, which will mark Colman Domingo’s debut as a director, explores the 1957 romantic affair between Kim Novak and Rat Pack singer Sammy Davis Jr. Their interracial relationship faced heavy criticism and threats from studio executives then.

Domingo is notably this year’s Met Gala cochair. The actor arrived on the red carpet almost at the same time as Sweeney, wearing a Valentino look inspired by the late journalist André Leon Talley.
Sweeney wore her hair pulled back in a tight updo, with face-framing baby curls and dramatic eye makeup. For accessories, she opted for several rings on the fingers.
