Best Coach Brooklyn Shoulder Bags + Accessories to Buy This Season

Not to scare anyone, but fall is right around the corner, and that means more opportunities for styling the season’s top handbags with your faux-fur coats, knee-high boots, and brown suede jackets: all trends spotted on fall 2025 runways. Another major fashion-world obsession coming back with a vengeance this season? Soft, spacious, and unstructured bag silhouettes that shun rigidity, instead evoking a boho-inspired cool. And we have just the carryall for you: Coach’s Brooklyn Shoulder Bag. This slouchy handbag was deemed the hottest product of 2024’s Q4 in the Lyst Index report, and, just recently, it was also given an upgrade in soft, life-affirming pastels that will flawlessly contrast all those jewel tones you’ll be wearing for fall.

Though the Brooklyn Shoulder Bag (which comes in the 39, 28, and 23 sizes) is still offered in suede, which helps it master the suede bag trend that’s been co-signed by countless celebrities this summer, our eyes are on these latest leather iterations: specifically, the baby-blue Bluebell, peachy Cream, and deep Merlot. While Bluebell dropped ahead of summer and is 40 percent off right now, the latter two shades are new arrivals as of June and have already amassed thousands of loyal followers on TikTok: where content creators show off their new, light-hued Brooklyn Shoulder Bags adorned by Labubus, Coach’s glittering jewelry straps released in April, and other charming additions.

The new colorways (unfortunately not available in the compact, chain strap–bound 23 size) fall into the wide range of color trends slated to reign supreme this season. The Merlot, for instance, is in line with the perennial return of darker, wine-adjacent shades for fall. Carolina Herrera‘s fall 2025 collection was heavily influenced by what can be seen as Merlot’s cousin — a lighter plum that manifested in draped gowns and delicate turtlenecks — and Burberry dabbled in an oxblood hue of the same family when it came to its glossy leather trenches. Paradoxically, pastels, which we typically associate with the feeling of rebirth at the start of spring, were also major players on fall 2025 runways. Whether it be Giambattista Valli‘s billowing, semi-sheer minidresses in a barely there pink or Alexander McQueen‘s pale greens and lilacs serving as breaths of fresh air between rounds of all-black outfits, the message was clear: This will be a fall of color-palette juxtapositions. And accessories like bags are some of the best ways to achieve this balance between the mellow and the saturated-slash-moody.

There’s no doubt Coach’s Brooklyn Bag is one of its most successful, viral handbag offerings of the moment: with the pieces constantly at risk of selling out (this happened to the Maple leather and Warm Brown suede versions before, alongside other always-in-demand shades in the Brooklyn Bag’s portfolio). But how did this hobo-style, hot-ticket item achieve such fame in the first place? The Brooklyn Bag burst onto the scene when it was first seen on the shoulder of Bella Hadid last summer, and, since then, the purse has amassed millions upon millions of searches and posts on TikTok. Meanwhile, in the land of Reddit, handbag aficionados are still drooling over the silhouette a solid year later: generating waves of hype by ranking its best colors, inquiring about where to shop the bag once it sells out on Coach’s site, and predicting future releases. The espresso-toned Maple colorway in particular remains one of the hottest styles, fitting in tidily with Pantone’s Mocha Mousse Color of the Year, but Bluebell, Cream, and Merlot are bound to turn the tide on that: Mark our words.

Considering that the roomy, vintage-inspired Coach Empire Carryall 48 was last fall’s most coveted bag and flew off shelves almost as soon as it landed, it’s even more impressive that the brand’s Brooklyn Bag was able to overshadow all that and come out on top. Perhaps people are more inclined to embrace the moto-boho trend highlighted in the Pinterest Predicts 2025 Report, prioritizing a certain effortless fluidity that’s epitomized most accurately by the Coach Brooklyn Shoulder Bag.

Beyond its new, crush-worthy finishes, the shoulder bag is innately practical — serving as an apt tote for holding your books, sunscreens, sunglasses, and handheld fans in the summer while acting as a cherry on top of casual-cool urban uniforms come fall, when you’re likely to introduce more buttery-soft leathers into your ‘fit rotation. The shoulder bag boasts functional elements like an internal snap pocket, magnetic top closure, and a sturdy shoulder strap. While the 28 size plays well as a spacious handbag for day-to-night wear, the 39 is even more accommodating: capable of doubling as a designer work bag or a travel carry-on and providing plenty of room for a 15-inch laptop. No matter where you take it or what you put inside, the hand feel of that natural grain leather will feel simply irresistible, evoking the unfussy luxury that Coach has always channeled.

Already added one (or all) of the three new Coach Brooklyn Shoulder Bag options to cart? Don’t forget to level it up with the brand’s cult-favorite bag charms. You’ve heard of the Cherry Bag Charm by now (ranked the fourth hottest product of Q4 2024 by the Lyst Index), but there’s a whole host of fresh charms you’d be remiss not to shop. We can’t get over the T-Rex and Dice Bag Charms bundle that will treat your handbag to some playfulness, as well as the Daisy Bag Charm created in collaboration with the hit show “The Summer I Turned Pretty” and the New York–coded Small Taxi Bag Charm that you can pair with its shoe charm equivalent for good measure. Want to take the personalization up a notch? Coach allows you to add a free monogram to the bag’s tag, with font color options that, amazingly, include glitter.

Coach Brooklyn Bag: Review, Popularity, History

The Brooklyn Bag achieved near-instant fame last year when Bella Hadid stepped out with it not once but on three separate occasions. Hadid is often the source of style trends that pop up on your TikTok FYP or Instagram feed (she clocked the Adidas Samba trend way in advance), so it makes sense that she was one of the first lucky celebs to get her hands on the Coach Brooklyn Shoulder Bag 39, courtesy of Coach’s Creative Director Stuart Vevers. Hadid modeled the designer leather tote bag in New York City last summer: styling its black leather version with green leather pants and a graphic camisole in July and, merely two days later, repurposing the same purse for an ensemble that included a stomach-baring, off-the-shoulder white top, capri pants, and mule sandals. Later, in August, Hadid found herself in Los Angeles, this time showing off the bag in suede. This fabric switch-up not only reflected her new, somewhat softer environs but also paired masterfully with Hadid’s red, tie-front crop top, cowboy boots, and denim shorts — demonstrating the sheer versatility of this trending Coach piece.

The Coach Brooklyn Shoulder Bag also earned a major badge of honor when the suede iteration of the slouchy handbag clinched the number two spot in the Lyst Index’s Q3 2024 ranking of the world’s hottest products. If you can believe it, the first trend report of 2025 issued by Lyst went a step beyond this: marking the bag as the hottest product in Q4 2024. Ringing in at $295 or $495 depending on its size, the Brooklyn Bag flaunts a much more affordable price point compared to other, four-figure designer handbags regularly featured on the Lyst Index, while still fitting squarely into the luxury category.

The modern-day marvel also made appearances on Coach‘s fall 2025 runway… but not in the way you’d expect. Instead, the Brooklyn took on shrunken proportions that played off the collection’s loose-fitting bottoms and was also dolled up with the label’s signature, free-spirited scribbles (this felt almost sacrilegious, based on the near-sacred status the bag has taken on in our culture).

Tapped-in fashion lovers are busy carrying the Brooklyn Bag as we speak, including WWD’s Fashion Market Editor Emily Mercer. “Since early September 2023, Coach’s leather Brooklyn bag has been my go-to everyday bag,” Mercer explains. “Not only is it large and durable enough to hold my laptop and day-to-night essentials, but it also sits comfortably on the shoulder, adds a nice pop of color to my wardrobe, and leans into the popular slouchy bag trend.”
