Even if you have the perfect family or group of friends, dinner during the holidays can be stressful. Whether it’s arguments about politics or pop culture, problems with the cooking or hosting, or maybe just built-up tension from work or other things, you’ll probably want to go for a relaxing drive after dinner to digest the food and the conversation. What’s the best car for that post-dinner holiday cruise?
I think I’ve got it pretty good this year. I’m going to my best friend’s house for Thanksgiving dinner, where I’ll be meeting both his new girlfriend and his sister’s fiancé for the first time, and it’ll be a mix of their family and other friends. I know some of us are gonna need an escape, even if it’s just to swing by the country club and do some people watching, so I’ve got myself a nice Mercedes-Maybach S680 for the holiday weekend. Selfishly it’s the perfect car for the long drive to Orange County and back, but it’ll also be perfect to luxuriously waft around in when we’ve got full bellies.
It’ll also work as an isolation chamber that doesn’t even need to leave the driveway. These things are vault-silent inside and so insulated that even if I’m blasting music, it’s hard to tell from outside the car. The airplane first class–style back seat setup one the best in the business, especially with the massage function turned on, and the Maybach has an unreal 4D sound system with Dolby Atmos capability. If someone needs a fifteen-minute break from the holiday chaos, they can just go lounge in the back seat. This one even has the standard three-across rear bench seat instead of the optional pair of seats with a fixed console, so we’ve got space for one more person to escape Thanksgiving with us.
