This week, our own Daniel Golson shared a moment of vulnerability with y’all when he expressed excitement over seeing three second-generation Chevy Malibus in a row. Naturally, many of you responded by saying you did not understand his excitement, and that’s OK. But it got me wondering, what normal car gives you a small thrill every time you see it?
For me, it’s the boxy cars of a bygone era. Give me the Honda Elements, the Scion xBs and the Ford Flexs. I’d even put the Toyota FJ Cruiser in that mix, but those are less “regular cars” and more works of art. When I see one of these cars in the real world I just have to point them out to my non-car-guy husband who absolutely does not care. Ah well. When my New York or California friends are in town, they get excited about seeing Chevy HHRs, which are pretty common here in Detroit. I’ll tell you what, they helped me see the HHR in a whole new light. Maybe it’s a car worth getting excited about after all?
Dailying a classic or unique car is a great way to make the world more interesting, but sometimes it’s up to you to look closer at the normal cars to make the world a more exciting place for yourself. So what regular cars get you excited when you see them in the wild?
