
Secret Base chatted a photography legend to find out
We use a lot of photographs in our work. Specifically, nearly every one of our videos depends a great deal on Getty Images, a massive library of photos we license for professional use. At some point over the past year, we (probably Will) thought “hey wouldn’t it be cool if we, who fill our work with so many of Getty Images’ final products, get in touch with one of the people on the ground creating this stuff in the first place”?
Well, this is that. We got in touch with Jamie Squire, Chief Sports Photographer for Getty Images, who’s been shooting sports events and more for several decades, and who is definitely responsible for some of your favorite sports images. It was fucking awesome. We loved asking him questions, we loved hearing his stories, and we loved grilling him on his memories of iconic (and just bizarre) events. This conversation was originally supposed to be like 20 minutes and we just ended up going on forever (before the wizard that is Ryan Simmons cut it down to a proper size.
