Sometimes the fun of cars is found in doing dumb things with your friends. It’s not against the law to decorate your MkIV Volkswagen R32 like Burt Reynolds’ 1978 Trans Am from the film “Smokey And The Bandit,” then road tripping it to Texarcana, Texas. Nobody can stop you if that’s something you want to do, which is part of why the good folks from Revival Motoring in Rhode Island decided to do that.

It might be about a joke to drive to Texas because it’s a reference to your favorite movie, but that’s not really what it’s about. Road trips like this are for the love of the car, for the love of driving, and for the love you share with your friends. What’s stopping you from doing this kind of trip yourself?

In addition to a mega cross-country road trip in an old Volkswagen hot hatch that sounds like Chewbacca, the Revival Motoring folks decided to document the whole trip in this huge one-hour video. It’s packed with unexpected moments, weird weather, and beautiful scenery. Every bit of the journey, from preparing the car for a long trip like this to the finish line is recorded in beautiful high-quality video. That’s commitment to the craft right there.

My personal favorite bit of this video is the stop off at Ludwick’s Garage to see their low and slow vintage machinery and grab coffee with more friends. It always seems that weird old cars are the glue that hold a widely varied community together. Get out there and drive. Rack up the miles and go grab coffee with the people you’ve only met on the internet. You never know what you might see out there in this beautiful weird country we live in.
