Following an ominous teaser clip last week, the first trailer for Paul Thomas Anderson’s next feature film, One Battle After Another, has dropped. The movie follows Bob Ferguson (Leonardo DiCaprio), a down-and-out former revolutionary who is in desperate search for his missing daughter. The clip also features appearances from Teyana Taylor, Benicio del Toro, and Sean Penn, as well as a sampling of Jonny Greenwood’s score. Check it out below.
One Battle After Another hits theaters on Friday, September 26. It’s Anderson’s follow-up to his 2021 coming-of-age picture, Licorice Pizza. Like his last film, One Battle After Another stars the youngest Haim sister, Alana Haim, as well as Shayna McHayle, better known to music fans as Junglepussy. The main cast also includes Regina Hall, Chase Infiniti, and Wood Harris.
Anderson wrote the script for One Battle After Another, which was inspired by the Thomas Pynchon novel Vineland. The movie was shot on 35-millimeter film using VistaVision cameras, primarily in California and Texas.
In a 2024 interview with The Guardian, Jonny Greenwood spoke of his creative partnership with Anderson, which began with the director’s Oscar-winning 2007 film There Will Be Blood. “I’m incredibly lucky that Paul indulges me and gives me so much time to experiment and compose,” Greenwood told The Guardian. “That’s not usually the case in Hollywood, where the soundtrack writers are often very far down the food chain, and are sometimes given only a couple of days to bash out a complete score.”
