Gorillaz made their Saturday Night Live debut on March 7, performing alongside host Ryan Gosling at Studio 8H. To mark the occasion, they played their 2001 classic “Clint Eastwood” and debuted a song from their new album The Mountain, “The Moon Cave” with Asha Puthli, Black Thought, and Anoushka Shankar. Elsewhere in the episode, Harry Styles made a cameo fresh off of the release of his album Kiss All The Time. Disco, Occasionally. He popped up during Gosling’s opening monologue, which saw Gosling struggle to hold the attention of a camera manned by a Styles fan and perform a high-pressure cover of “Sign Of The Times.” Styles will host and perform on the show on March 14.
The musical guests on SNL’s 51st season so far have included Geese, A$AP Rocky, Doja Cat, Sabrina Carpenter, Brandi Carlile, Mumford & Sons, Olivia Dean, Dijon, Lily Allen, and Cher. Bad Bunny and Ariana Grande have both hosted episodes.
Gorillaz will return stateside in September for a North American tour supporting The Mountain. It’s their first large-scale run in the region in four years. They also have a few festival dates in the UK and Europe set for this summer, including a headlining slot at Barcelona’s Primavera Sound.
