Volcom, Boardriders to Return to Hawaii With Flagships

Volcom and Boardriders are returning to their roots.

The two surf brands are reopening stores in Oahu in Hawaii in partnership with The Levy Group and BR Japan, respectively. Both brands are owned by Authentic Brands Group.

Boardriders will reopen its 7,000-square-foot U.S. flagship in Waikiki, just steps from the Duke Kahanamoku statue on Honolulu’s Kalamata Avenue. The store will carry a mix of the company’s action sports and outdoor brands under the Quiksilver, Billabong, Volcom, Roxy and RVCA names.

“Our store sits right in front of the birthplace of surfing, the most important location in surfing history,” said Sammy Yoo, president of BR Japan. “This is our flagship, arguably the most important property in the surf industry, and we want it to feel truly original. The imagery we’re collecting, from Waikiki’s early surf culture to iconic shots of our athletes, honors the past while inspiring the future.”

In addition, Volcom is teaming with longtime Hawaii retailer Cycle City to reopen its store in Haleiwa. The store will feature the brand’s apparel, swimwear, footwear and accessories.

“Reestablishing Volcom’s presence in Haleiwa is an important milestone for us,” said Louis Levy, president of The Levy Group. “Hawaii has always been central to the brand’s story, and we’re committed to building stores with a partner that reflects the energy, creativity, and authenticity that define Volcom.  With our iconic Volcom houses at Pipeline only 6 1/2 miles away, reopening this location is another step in supporting Volcom athletes, consumers, and the community on O’ahu’s North Shore.”

Authentic acquired the Boardriders portfolio in early 2023 and since then it has opened more than 20 stores around the world, including 15 across Western Europe.

“This is more than retail returning to the islands — it’s our brands reconnecting with a place that has been essential to our identity,” said David Brooks, executive vice president of action and outdoor sports at Authentic. “Through strong partnerships and shared vision, we’re elevating the retail landscape, supporting local jobs, and bringing surf culture back to the center of the experience.”
