Traditionally, blowing up a truck outside a hotel has been considered bad. You know, because hurting other people is bad? Well, apparently, if you’re a former representative who nearly became the new attorney general, that’s not always the case. On Twitter, Matt Gaetz, the disgraced former Florida representative, posted, “The Vegas dude seems like a real CHAD??” and has yet to delete it at the time of writing, more than 18 hours later.
If you’re confused why Gaetz praised Vegas bomber, whose Cybertruck explosion injured seven people, you aren’t alone. If you’re confused about what “a real CHAD” means, I envy the lack of psychic damage you’ve taken on the internet. Basically, he called Matthew Livelsberger an attractive, masculine man who he admires, which again doesn’t quite square with the whole “blowing up a Cybertruck in front of a hotel” thing. Then again, it makes a lot more sense when you realize Livelsberger was a huge Trump supporter.
“He used to have all patriotic stuff on Facebook, he was 100 percent loving the country,” Matthew Livelsberger’s uncle Dean Livelsberger told the Independent. “He loved Trump, and he was always a very, very patriotic soldier, a patriotic American. It’s one of the reasons he was in Special Forces for so many years. It wasn’t just one tour of duty.”
Dean Livelsberger’s also supported law enforcement’s claims that this was “a suicide with a bombing that occurred immediately thereafter,” and not a “suicide mission,” telling the Independent:
Matt was a very skilled warrior, and he would be able to make — if it was him, and if he did this — he would’ve been able to make a more sophisticated explosive than using propane tanks and camping fuel. He was what you might call a “supersoldier.” If you ever read about the things he was awarded, and the experience he had, some of it doesn’t make sense, when he had the skills and ability to make something more, let’s say, “efficient.” His skills were enormous from what he had been taught in the military.
While I appreciate the fact that he didn’t design the truck explosion to take out half a city block, it’s still pretty bad that he injured seven people, cost the taxpayers of Las Vegas a huge amount of money and left people scared for their lives. Apparently, though, since they were on the same side politically, Gaetz felt the need to cast the explosion as not that bad and pretty cool, actually. What a great guy.
