Valkyries sign former Fever rookie as EuroBasket absences mount

The Golden State Valkyries have signed former South Carolina standout Bree Hall to a rest-of-season contract. Hall, who was selected in the second round of the 2025 WNBA Draft by the Indiana Fever, was waived after training camp and has been a free agent since.

With several Valkyries players currently overseas for national team obligations, Natalie Nakase’s club has signed the two-time NCAA champion. Hall was selected with the 20th overall pick. She averaged 5.8 points and 2.3 rebounds per game in her four-year career at the University of South Carolina, and shot 38.3% from three in her senior season. She’s particularly impactful on the defensive end, with South Carolina coach Dawn Staley hailing her as one of the most impactful defenders she’s ever coached.

Bree Hall marks the third 2025 Gamecock draftee to have a roster spot in the WNBA

Hall is one of three Gamecocks selected in the 2025 Draft; Te-Hina Paopao was selected 18th overall by the Atlanta Dream, Hall 20th by the Fever, and Sania Feagin 21st by the Los Angeles Sparks. Paopao and Feagin are both still with the teams that drafted them; Paopao is averaging 6.1 points in 13.2 minutes per game.

In addition to signing Hall this week, the Valkyries signed former UConn guard Kaitlyn Chen and Chloe Bibby to rest-of-season contracts this week. Janelle Salaün (France), Julie Vanloo (Belgium), Temi Fágbénlé (Great Britain), and Cecilia Zandalasini (Italy) are all overseas for EuroBasket. Presumably, the players that the Valkyries signed will be cut when they return.
