Unrivaled announces 4 of WNBA’s best guards will play next year

Unrivaled is heading into its second season, and so far, 12 players have been revealed to be playing in the offseason 3-on-3 professional women’s basketball league in Miami, which tips off in January.

On Tuesday, the league shared the names of six players who will be playing — four returners and two new additions.

Stewart, one of the league’s co-founders, averaged 18.3 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 3.5 assists last season. She missed some time with a knee injury, but was the Liberty’s most impactful player in the postseason.

Hull is in the midst of a big playoff run with the Fever; this season, she averaged 7.2 points and 4.3 rebounds, appearing in all 44 of Indiana’s games.

Stevens was one of the league’s most improved players this season, averaging 12.8 points and 8 rebounds while shooting 47.8% from the field, nearly 8% better than last season.

Young was named an All-Star for the fourth time in her WNBA career, averaging 16.5 points and 5 assists per game.

Citron was a candidate for Rookie of the Year, establishing herself as one of the league’s most efficient guards in Year 1. She averaged 14.9 points and shot 44.5% from three, the best clip among high-volume guards.

Burton was named the league’s Most Improved Player, averaging 11.9 points and 6 assists in her first season with the Valkyries. She was Golden State’s anchor on both ends, and quickly established herself as one of the league’s best two-way guards.

Tuesday’s announcements came after Unrivaled shared an initial batch of six participating players on Monday:

Roll-outs are expected to continue on Wednesday and throughout the rest of the year. In total, 48 players are participating in the league. But already, four of the league’s best guards — Paige Bueckers, Sonia Citron, Veronica Burton, and Jackie Young — have been revealed as participating athletes.
