Tyla brought a pop of color to the 2024 MTV VMAs red carpet in New York City on Wednesday. The Grammy Award-winning singer favored a yellow corset top and coordinated miniskirt for the music industry awards show.
For the occasion, Tyla wore a look from Area’s fall 2024 ready–to–wear collection, which was featured as part of New York Fashion Week on Friday. The look featured a spaghetti fringe corset top and coordinated miniskirt.
The skirt featured a high-low effect, with spaghetti fringe creating a train behind the South African singer. Tyla continued the colorful sartorial display with a turquoise necklace and coral strappy sandal heels.
The “Water” singer’s hair featured voluminous curls. Her makeup included a bold lip and featured a smokey eye. Tyla is nominated for three MTV VMAs — Best R&B for her single “Water,” Best Afrobeats, also for “Water,” and Best New Artist.
Tyla previously made waves at the 2024 Met Gala in May, wearing a look designed by Balmain’s creative director Olivier Rousteing. The singer wore a dress made of sand that was entirely molded to her body and was so fragile she had to be carried up the iconic Met Gala stairs.
Along with her viral Met Gala moment, Tyla’s profile has grown in the fashion world. The singer previously worked with Alo Yoga on their Beats by Dr. Dre collaboration last April and appeared in Gap’s spring 2024 campaign last February.
The MTV VMAs recognize the year’s best music videos, artists and songs. Megan Thee Stallion makes her hosting debut during the 2024 ceremony, held at the UBS Stadium in Elmont, New York on Sept. 11. Katy Perry will receive the honorary Video Vanguard Award, while performers include Sabrina Carpenter, Lenny Kravitz, Eminem and Karol G.
