The original intention of social media was to give us a way to share our lives with people that we may not be able to interact with on a day-to-day basis. That way the people that you love, like, or at least might actually run into at some point would know what’s happening in your life.
Fast forward a couple decades later and now all social media is good for is using it as a way to project all of our personal insecurities onto people that we not only do not know, but have never even seen in real life.
Travis Hunter and his longtime girlfriend Leanna Lenee got married over the long weekend, and what should be one of the happiest moments of their lives has actually become a harrowing reminder of what social media has devolved into. People forming parasocial relationships with celebrities/athletes and their significant others which in turn just leads to a bunch of commentary that can only be described as…really weird.
That looks like two people who care a great deal about each other celebrating their marriage to me. You would think that would be the only takeaway from this, that two people that love each other decided to marry one another and build their life together and celebrate their union with the people they love and care about, but unfortunately that’s not what’s happening.
Instead we’re being bombarded with commentary about whether or not his now wife only married him for his money, that eventually she’ll divorce him and take a significant percentage of his money, that he’ll eventually regret this and blah, blah, blah.
WHO CARES. WE DO NOT KNOW THEM.

Maybe their marriage won’t last and people will end up being right about this entire situation, or maybe they’ll be together for the rest of their lives and all those same people will be wrong.
Regardless of what happens with the two of them it is simply not any of our business. For all the access social media grants us into the lives of other people, that does not mean we actually know them.
Travis Hunter is a spectacular football player, and could perhaps be the first full time two way player the NFL has ever seen, isn’t it significantly more interesting to talk about that?
Wouldn’t you much rather talk about how the Jacksonville Jaguars can utilize him as a weapon for Trevor Lawrence on offense while simultaneously have him be their best corner on defense?
How about the potential ramifications of the Jaguars trading their first round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft to the Cleveland Browns to be able to move up to the 2nd pick to draft Travis?
All of these things would be a much more entertaining and constructive use of our collective time than wondering if two young people are going to get a divorce in the future or not.
So congratulations to Travis Hunter and his now wife Leanna Lenee on their marriage. I wish them nothing but the best in the future, but if things don’t work out that’s okay too.
Either way it goes, it’s not any of my business and it’s not any of yours either.
