Happy first night of Hanukkah! And, I guess, merry Christmas. I thought this would be a fitting day for my Traffic Jams debut so I can bless you all with the greatest Christmas song ever written: “Christmas Tree” by Lady Gaga. Released in December 2008 as a digital download, a few months after Gaga’s debut album “The Fame,” the song samples classics like “Deck the Halls” and “The Little Drummer Boy” to create an extremely funny, catchy and raunchy ‘lil jingle.
While I am basically always thinking about this song, especially around the holidays, aside from the occasional funny social media post or comment about it, Gaga doesn’t tend to talk about “Christmas Tree” much, and she’s never performed it live. That is, until now, when she sang the song with Zane Lowe on the newest episode of Apple TV+’s “Carpool Karaoke.” I’ve watched the below clip about a thousand times already, and I still can’t believe it.
I mean, how could you not love this song? It’s the silliest thing ever. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to go find someone to light me up and put me on top. Fa-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la!
