Tiny motor uses heat to perform molecular magic

The latest knitting craze is nanoscopic. Powered by light and heat, a tool called a molecular motor can twist strings of atoms into hard-to-break shapes called catenanes, chemists report¹. The technique could be used to construct new kinds of molecules and materials.
