Timothée Chalamet Channels Bob Dylan in London in Martine Rose

LONDONTimothée Chalamet rolled elegantly into the London premiere of “A Complete Unknown” on a rented Lime bike, taking everyone by surprise, including the designer who dressed him.

“I was very impressed — I wouldn’t have been so steady cycling onto the red carpet,” said Martine Rose, who made the slim suit based on her “Bowie” silhouette.

For the premiere at the BFI Southbank, Chalamet paired the jacket, with its short, slim lapels, with a silky shirt from Rose’s spring 2025 collection in blue, black and green.

The shirt was a nod to Bob Dylan’s London visit in 1965 with American folk musician Joan Baez. The pair were photographed in the gardens of the Savoy Hotel at the time.

He even wore Martine Rose mules, which the designer said was a “high-risk strategy” given his mode of transport.

Chalamet’s on-screen outfits are also garnering their share of attention, with costume designer Arianne Phillips earning her third BAFTA nomination for Best Costume Design.

The award ceremony will take place on Feb. 16 at the Royal Festival Hall.

The biopic follows Bob Dylan’s origins and ambitions, and finding his way in New York City in the early ‘60s.

Phillips created a screen persona for the famously enigmatic singer-songwriter by shining a light on his passions, dressing Chalamet in motorcycle jackets, skinny suits inspired by Dylan’s time with The Beatles and dark sunglasses to conceal his shyness.

She also paid close attention to color, dressing Dylan in suede jackets that became progressively darker in color as he rose to fame, and became more mysterious in the heady years of the American Civil Rights Movement, the anti-Vietnam movement and the precursor to the Summer of Love.

Phillips began her Dylan studies in 2019, reading “Dylan Goes Electric!” by Elijah Wald, on which the film is based. She also spent time with Suze Rotolo’s memoir “A Freewheelin’ Time,” and hours listening to various audiobooks.

The project led to a collaboration with Levi’s, which has been a staple of Dylan’s signature rock star look since the ‘60s.

The Levi’s team and Phillips, an Academy Award-nominated costume designer, worked on a pair of 1955 501 jeans with boot-cut insert, a D belt and a suede jacket.
