This Jets’ tailgating tradition is so sad

The New York Jets are the only winless team in the NFL, and with each passing week it’s looking more, and more like they might be the first team in history to go 0-17. There are a great many reasons for this failure, with their offensive incompetence and lack of discipline derailing drives before they even begin — but unfortunately this ineptitude has spread to the parking lot as well, where Jets fans are engaging in some of the saddest tailgating imaginable.

A group of Jets fans have taken to burning opposing jerseys before each game as a way to manufacture some form of hype. It’s an obvious attempt to try a brand a tradition, with there being a garment rack, and two women they refer to as “fluid girls” spraying the jersey with propellent. I’m really, really sorry I just had to use the phrase “fluid girls.” I hate it as well.

There’s something just incredible about a small crowd of barely-hyped up fans standing in a circle wanting to see something on fire, while a man in a “God Save Us” jersey tries to make people care about burning Bryce Young’s jersey. At this point we had a dude try to chug two beers, dropping one, spilling the other and pouring a few drops into his mouth while confused onlookers watch as the Young jersey falls from its perch.

This tradition began in Week 1 against the Steelers when the same group burned Aaron Rodgers’ jersey, proclaiming “1-0 begins today.”
