When you think of the perfect car, what does it look like? Something fast, expensive, and shiny? Well I’m here to tell you that you’re wrong, the perfect car is a ’90s Civic that’s been turned into a ute. Please adjust your dreams and aspirations accordingly.

This Civic started life as a sedan, before becoming the platonic ideal of a four-wheeled vehicle. It can haul, it can corner, its check engine light has been repurposed as a shift light — what more could you want? C’mon, you didn’t need that check engine light anyway. It’s a Honda.

The engine is a rebuilt stock D16 with two-step, the brakes are discs on all four corners, and the seat is a bench out of an S10. It’s an absurd build, but it seems to have been done with genuine quality and care. Look at the seams, or more accurately the lack thereof — this isn’t some backyard hack job.

I’ll admit the wheels could be better, the HIDs could be more color-matched, and the cherry bomb muffler is a highly specific choice, but these are small nits to pick. Nits, I’ll add, that you could fix yourself as this car’s next owner. I’m sure you can find a different set of wheels for an EG Civic.

Really, the only way to improve upon this car would be to give the same treatment to an EG with Type R bodywork and a turbo K24 under the hood. Of course, this appeals more to my raised-on-Subarus-tuned-within-an-inch-of-their-life brain than to anyone who actually needs a reliable daily, but for those purposes there’s still the EG. Utes are perfect, ‘90s Civics are perfect, and putting them together creates a vehicle that I’d have over any supercar.
