Reason and logic are out. Emotions are in. So I say throw caution to the wind and buy this heavily depreciated 2008 Audi S6 over on Cars & Bids. You know, the good one with the V10.
With four days left on the auction, bidding is only up to a little over $2,000, which is a terrifyingly low price for a car with a 5.2-liter V10 under the hood. I assume it’ll get more expensive by the time the auction is over, but we’re probably still talking used motorcycle money for a luxury sedan that cost more than $80,000 when it was new. In today’s dollars, that would be about $120,000.
The cost of maintenance and repairs will be expensive, just like they would be on any other six-figure car with a ten-cylinder engine. Also, these days, 435 horsepower and 398 pound-feet of torque isn’t as much as it used to be. Odds are, it’s a really bad idea, but then again, so are gas station taquitos and someone is eating those, otherwise why do they keep making them?
Things like reliability and repair cost are problems for future you. Let that future person worry about where to get parts for a low-volume sedan with an uncommon engine. Today you deserve a little treat. A V10-powered treat that you definitely won’t regret buying at least until the first thing breaks or wears out.
