The Maybourne Beverly Hills is introducing The Red Carpet Collection, the American version of London’s famed Prêt-à-Portea. The hotel’s fashionable twist on afternoon tea debuts this weekend serving up runway-to-teatime transformations that are equal parts couture and confection.
Executive pastry chef Brooke Martin has masterfully reimagined iconic red carpet moments as nine delectable treats. Björk’s infamous 2001 Oscars swan dress takes flight as a delicate pavlova with passion fruit ganache, while Jennifer Lopez’s game-changing green Versace number appears as a tropical coconut mousse with pineapple-lime chutney on pistachio sponge. Michelle Williams’ saffron Vera Wang gown from the 2006 Oscars is reimagined as a biscuit with lemon vanilla royal icing and Lupita Nyong’o’s pearl-embellished Calvin Klein gown from the 2015 Oscars inspires a Vanilla St. Honoré with white chocolate pearls.
Looks worn by Taylor Swift, Billy Porter and Zendaya are also on the menu.
The legendary fashion tea began nearly two decades ago at the Berkeley Hotel in London and lands in Los Angeles in the heart of awards season, when the city is already buzzing with red carpet excitement.
Located just a stiletto’s throw from Rodeo Drive, the hotel’s Terrace Tea Room marries English garden sensibilities with Hollywood glamour. The confections are presented on peach and white striped Bernardaud china, creating an Instagram moment as carefully styled as the red carpet inspirations themselves.
