There have been a lot of bad moves by sports organizations when it comes to giveaways and skits, but the Charlotte Hornets might have topped them all this week. On Monday the Hornets faced the 76ers and included an on-court segment in which mascot Hugo appeared to give a PS5 to a child, only to take it away from him backstage and replace it with a jersey.
You guys want to see a cheap sports organization?
In this video my best friend&his nephew get called onto court for a special segment where they gift the kid a PS5 publicly… w/cameras off they TOOK IT AWAY and gave him a jersey.
Take a bow @hornets… crushed the kid pic.twitter.com/mcj5hhsuM5

Everything seemed above board on court, but apparently after the kid went behind the scenes the team thanked him for being a part of their “skit,” and took away the PS5. This is from a billion dollar organization who honestly had this kid believing he’d been given a console.
After public outcry the Hornets released the following statement:
During last night’s game there was an on-court skit that missed the mark. The skit included bad decision making and poor communication. Simply put, we turned the ball over and we apologize. We have reached out to the family and are committed to not only making it right but to exceeding expectations. We will be providing the fan with the PS5 that he should have taken home last night along with a VIP experience to a future game. Our goal is and will remain to elevate the guest experience for every person that enters Spectrum Center, and to show our fans how much we appreciate their relentless support.
It’s nice he’s getting back the PS5 — but my God this is Grinch like beyond all expectation. I’d also say it’s nice the Hornets are giving him a VIP experience, but based on how Charlotte has been playing that might just be the lump of coal in his stocking.
