“Why Liz Taylor? Because Liz Taylor is a badass f—–g bitch,” declared Gaëlle Drevet Thursday evening, surrounded by every version of Elizabeth Taylor one could think of.
“What you need to understand is I love a one-theme party. One theme. It’s great. And Liz has so many characters,” Drevet said. “Just pick your Liz.”
The founder of The Frankie Shop was hosting her third annual Halloween party with Unemployed, this year themed, simply, Elizabeth Taylor.
Guests including Ariana DeBose, Audrey Hobert, Ivy Getty, Chloe Wise, Dorian Greenspan and Grace VanderWaal packed into newly opened One4One on the Lower East Side, a new sports lounge from the Flower Shop team. Drevet was the belle of the ball, dressed as Taylor in the 1968 movie “Boom!”
“She’s such a bitch in that movie,” Drevet said of her inspiration. Her interpretation was hand-sewn in Paris. “It’s basically Frankie Shop atelier, Frankie Shop couture.”
Her love of Liz Taylor extends beyond costume inspiration.
“Eight husbands, dripping in diamonds…I just love an amazing power lady, and Liz was a power lady,” Drevet said.
The party also marked 10 years of The Frankie Shop, celebrations of which will continue during the New York Halloween Parade; the brand will have a float, which will be a giant cake. Drevet will be joined by Lisa Rinna and various drag queens.
“Liz Taylor for her 25th birthday, she got a giant cake from her husband,” Drevet explained of the float’s inspiration. “It was so big that it was at Madison Square Garden, so she climbed a ladder to cut the cake. So the float is in the shape of this giant cake. The storytelling with this woman. And I’m going to be on the f—–g cake!”
Despite the fashion press that would come from the Halloween party, the float would be giving her a major, coveted milestone.
“We’re going to be on New York One!”
