TGL may add new Texas-based team with $77 million price tag

After a successful first season, TGL is looking to expand.

According to Doug Ferguson of The Associated Press, a group of Dallas investors has put in a $77 million bid to establish a Texas-based TGL team for the 2026 season.

Perhaps that would include World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, three-time major winner Jordan Spieth, fellow Texas Longhorn Will Zalatoris, and another player with Long Star State roots, like Sam Burns or Doug Ghim.

Ferguson also noted that TGL is working with ESPN to establish its schedule for 2026. It will likely fall into the January to March window once again, and each of the six original teams — defending champions Atlanta Drive, runners-up New York Golf Club, The Bay, Los Angeles, Jupiter Links, and Boston Common — will all return to TGL for its second season. Few, if any, changes will be made to the roster complexion of each team, but the league is exploring new ideas to implement going forward.

The most significant change could be a new team, though. TGL co-founder Mike McCarley said that one potential expansion group has attended every TGL match, with most of those individuals being professional sports owners, ranging from cricket to soccer.

Another significant development for TGL is that the league is exploring options for opening up a second facility in the Pacific or Mountain time zones. This would not happen in 2026, but perhaps farther down the line.

“I think a lot of us guys on the West Coast would entertain it if they moved the SoFi Center west,” Tony Finau said before last week’s Texas Children’s Houston Open.

“It would be a lot easier for me. It’s no secret I travel with my family and my kids. They’re very important to me, so being with them as often as possible is a priority for me, and that’s only possible, I think, if they moved the SoFi Center out west.”
