New Boson+ and Hadron 640R+ Cameras Provide Real-Time Temperature Data with Industry-Leading Sensitivity

Teledyne FLIR OEM has announced the release of radiometric versions of its high-performance Boson+ thermal and Hadron 640R+ dual thermal-visible camera modules. These new models provide pixel-level temperature measurement, expanding their capabilities for unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs), unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), security, handhelds, and AI applications.

Enhanced Thermal Sensitivity and AI Integration

The radiometric Boson+ and Hadron 640R+ offer thermal sensitivity of 20 millikelvin (mK) or better, enabling detection of temperature differences as small as 0.02°C. This capability reveals critical details that similar thermal imagers may miss.

“These radiometric models expand the mission set for infrared product developers and integrators,” said Dan Walker, vice president of product management at Teledyne FLIR OEM. “They are optimized for unmanned ground vehicles (UGV), unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), security applications, handhelds, thermal sights, and emerging AI applications using Teledyne FLIR Prism™ embedded software.”

The cameras integrate with Teledyne FLIR’s Prism AI software for detection, tracking, and classification. This enables AI-driven decision-making based on temperature data, enhancing applications in autonomous drones, wearables, and target-tracking systems.

Compact Design and Improved Flight Time for Drones

The Hadron 640R+ is particularly beneficial for drone applications. Weighing just 56 grams—about the weight of a large egg—it is designed to extend flight times while providing detailed thermal data. Its IP54-rated dust and water resistance makes it suitable for use in various environments, supporting applications in infrastructure inspection, search and rescue, defense, and precision agriculture.

The camera’s dual-sensor payload includes a 64MP visible camera and provides dual 60Hz video output via USB or MIPI. This combination delivers high-resolution imaging for both day and night operations.

Flexible Integration and Global Availability

The Boson+ models are available in 640 x 512 and 320 x 256 longwave infrared (LWIR) resolution options, with multiple lens configurations. They feature automatic gain control (AGC) and direct data entry plus (DDE+), which enhance scene contrast, sharpness, and reduce video latency. The cameras support various video output interfaces, including USB, CMOS, and MIPI, allowing for seamless integration across different platforms.

These camera modules are NDAA-compliant and ITAR-free, making them accessible for commercial and defense applications worldwide. “Despite their advanced capabilities, these ITAR-free and NDAA-compliant camera modules are available globally for both commercial and defense applications,” noted Teledyne FLIR.

Developers can evaluate the Hadron 640R+ quickly using the Prism Development Kit for Qualcomm RB5, reducing development time and costs.

Availability and More Information

The Hadron 640R+ and Boson+ radiometric camera modules are classified under the U.S. Department of Commerce as ECCN 6A003.b.4 and are available for purchase globally through Teledyne FLIR OEM and its authorized dealers.
