Taylor Swift embraced kitschy details at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards on Wednesday night in Elmont, N.Y. The “Tortured Poets Department” artist won seven awards, including Video of the Year, Best Collaboration and Song of Summer for her track “Fortnight” featuring Post Malone.
Following her red carpet appearance in a tartan Dior look, Swift changed into an embroidered Monse minidress from the label’s resort 2025 collection. The sequined frock features a UFO print, fittingly evocative of the award show’s signature Moonman statuette.
The singer’s longtime stylist, Joseph Cassell Falconer, dressed her for the occasion. Falconer, who’s worked with the singer for over a decade, also curated her “Eras” tour wardrobe.
Swift wore her dirty blond tresses in waves with full fringe, while her makeup included a smokey eye and a matte terracotta lip.
“There is a very clear reason why Post Malone is everyone’s favorite person to collaborate with,” Swift said of the singer in her acceptance speech for the Song of Summer award. “That’s because you are so ridiculously talented, so versatile…so unfailingly polite. It has taken forever to get him to stop calling me ma’am.”
On Tuesday, Swift announced her endorsement for Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential race, describing her as a “steady-handed, gifted leader” who can lead with “calm, not chaos.”
“I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 presidential election,” she wrote on Instagram. “I’m voting for Kamala Harris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them….I was so heartened and impressed by her selection of running mate Tim Walz, who has been standing up for LGBTQ+ rights, IVF and a woman’s right to her own body for decades.”
The MTV VMAs recognize the year’s best music videos, artists and songs. Megan Thee Stallion made her hosting debut during the 2024 ceremony, held at the UBS Stadium in Elmont, N.Y., on Sept. 11. Katy Perry received the honorary Video Vanguard Award, while performers included Sabrina Carpenter, Lenny Kravitz, Eminem and Karol G.
