SwissDrones recently announced the sale of a SwissDrones’ SDO 50 V3 uncrewed helicopter system to Japanese company Sanwa Gikou, representing an important strategic expansion to that market. The advanced aircraft will be deployed across Japan to support critical operations including aerial surveillance, search and rescue, asset inspection, emergency transport, and natural disaster response.
SDO 50 V3 Technical Capabilities and Specifications
The SDO 50 V3 is engineered for mission-critical operations across demanding environments. The uncrewed helicopter system features heavy-payload capacity combined with long-endurance performance, enabling extended missions over diverse terrain and coastal regions. The aircraft incorporates robust safety architecture specifically designed for resilience in challenging operational conditions.
According to SwissDrones CEO Ulrich Amberg, “The first deployment of the SDO 50 V3 in Japan marks an important milestone toward expanding advanced uncrewed helicopter operations across one of the world’s most demanding environments. Sanwa Gikou’s decision to adopt our technology reflects a growing confidence in long-range UAV systems to enhance resilience, efficiency, and sustainability in mission-critical operations.”
Regional Deployment and Validation Program
Sanwa Gikou plans to deploy the SDO 50 V3 in cooperation with the Regional Collaboration & Future Hybrid Logistics Council, a pioneering initiative exploring next-generation logistics and public-service applications across Kyushu, Yamaguchi, and West Shikoku. Early-stage activities will focus on validating the SDO 50 V3’s advanced surveillance and information-gathering capabilities, as well as its performance in critical emergency transport operations during disasters and crisis situations.
The deployment will demonstrate how uncrewed helicopter systems can reduce response time, maintain service reliability, and strengthen resilience in regional emergency-response frameworks. Isao Umebayashi, CEO of Sanwa Gikou Co., Ltd., stated: “We are very pleased to evaluate the wide-ranging potential of the SDO 50 V3. This advanced uncrewed helicopter system provides new opportunities to strengthen regional public services, improve operational efficiency, and explore innovative air–land integrated models that support Japan’s evolving disaster-management and emergency-response landscape.”
