Sweeping Promises have covered the Bangles’ Prince-penned single “Manic Monday” for a new benefit compilation supporting wildfire relief efforts. Battle for L.A.: A See/Saw Benefit is out in full today; take a listen below, via Bandcamp, and find the Sweeping Promises cover at track 18.
Sweeping Promises’ Lira Mondal said in a statement, “I have a funny relationship to this song. My mom was/is a huge Bangles fan, and when I was a little girl—like, 7 or 8—she made me memorize the song and sing it to her co-workers in the cosmetic aisle of a Walmart (one of her many odd jobs growing up), and it’s one of the most bewildering memories I have of singing in public.”
See/Saw, the compilation organizer, is the independent, punk and rock’n’roll publication of Evan Minsker, a former Pitchfork news editor. Check out its archive of podcasts, features, punk roundups, and more.
Other artists on the compilation include Spllit, Tyvek, Gee Tee, and more artists from DIY scenes around the world. Cassettes are available to pre-order from Knuckles on Stun. All proceeds go directly to people impacted by the Eaton and Palisades Fires in Los Angeles this year, the Bandcamp page notes.
