Super Bowl Sunday’s Cinematrix game combines NFL teams and movies for you to play

Greetings, sports fans!

Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen and his fiancé Hailee Steinfeld walked the red carpet at the NFL Honors awards show on Thursday night from New Orleans, Louisiana, the site of this weekend’s Super Bowl. Like Allen and Steinfeld combine the best of the NFL and the movies, so too does today’s version of The Cinematrix at Vulture.

Our friends at Vulture made a special edition of their Cinematrix game just in time for the Super Bowl.

Today’s grid features two categories tied to the NFL and the Super Bowl:

  • Title Contains an NFL Team Name
  • $LIX+ Worldwide Box Office

The first one can be the singular or plural of any NFL team mascot name like “Eagles” or “Chiefs”, the two teams playing in the Super Bowl, or any of the other 30 NFL squads.

The second category is a play on the number of the Super Bowl that cleverly uses Roman numerals: The movies in this column need to have made $59+ million at the worldwide box office.

Here’s today’s grid, but you have to click over to Vulture to play.

It’s easy to play. Here are the rules:

  • For each square, select a movie that satisfies the two intersecting clues from the x-axis and y-axis. If a movie poster appears, congrats, you got that square correct.
  • You have nine guesses to fill out the entire grid. A given movie cannot be used twice.
  • If you’re unclear about a certain clue, click on it to see a headshot of that person or read a more detailed explanation.
  • When you correctly guess a movie, a percentage will appear in that square. It represents the number of players who guessed the same movie for that square.
  • At the end of each game, you’ll get a Rarity Score. Selecting more obscure movies for each square will yield a more impressive score.

After you’re done over at Vulture, come back and share your grid and rarity scores in the comments section below. There’s a “Copy Your Results” button once you submit.

There is a new puzzle every day, so add it to your daily game rotation!
