The Philadelphia Eagles are back in the Super Bowl. Philly punched its ticket to Super Bowl LIX by defeating the Washington Commanders at home on Sunday in the NFC Championship Game. The Eagles will now face the winner of the Kansas City Chiefs vs. Buffalo Bills in the AFC Championship Game.
The Eagles last made the Super Bowl two years ago, when they lost to the Chiefs. The Eagles last won the Super Bowl seven years ago, when they defeated the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LII in an instant classic.
This Eagles team shares a lot of DNA with the one that reached the Super Bowl two years ago. Jalen Hurts is remains at quarterback, and he’s still throwing to A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith, and Dallas Goedert. Hurts’ “tush push” play remains a major weapon for the Eagles in short-yardage situations. Philadelphia still led by one of the best offensive lines in football. Jason Kelce and Fletcher Cox might be gone, but Saquon Barkley, Jalen Carter, and others have emerged as new stars.
Barkley is putting together one of the greatest running back seasons in league history in his first year with the Eagles. He did it again in the NFC Championship Game, busting a 60-yard touchdown run on his first carry of the game. The former Penn State star pulled off an iconic backwards hurdle early in the season, and ended up with more than 2,000 yards rushing and numerous indelible playoff moments. Barkley will be a focal point of every Super Bowl conversation.
