Stoffa Men’s Brand to Celebrate Raw Fabrics in New Exhibition

It’s been 10 years since former Isaia coworkers Agyesh Madan and Nick Ragosta teamed to create Stoffa, their own made-to-measure menswear brand. They started with scarves, moved into sportswear and then suits, and in the spring, moved beyond its by-appointment salon and opened a flagship on Grand Street in New York.

To celebrate the anniversary, Stoffa will open an exhibition in the store on Tuesday titled “The Undyed Series,” dedicated to fabric in its purest form.

In Italian, Stoffa translates to the word fabric, and the brand has built its business by using exclusively natural materials — undyed cotton, linen, cashmere, silk and alpaca — in its products. In fact, the brand claimed it is the largest purveyor of undyed woven wool fabric in the U.S. today.

The “Undyed Series” exhibition dissects the process from raw fiber to yarn, from yarn to fabric, and ultimately from fabric to finished garment. The exhibit will explore undyed fabrics through the use of different objects, installations and the inclusion of archival garments as well as current pieces and future prototypes.

To complement the exhibit, Stoffa has developed a special collection made from raw, undyed fibers presented in their natural hues, free of any chemical dyes or synthetic finishing agents. Among the pieces offered are an asymmetric coat in undyed wool for $3,395; a raglan coat in undyed wool for $3,395; a double-breasted shirt-jacket in baby camel hair for $2,995; a single-pleat trouser in undyed cashmere for $1,550; a turtleneck sweater in undyed cashmere for $1,095; a short-sleeve knit T-shirt in undyed cashmere for $795, and a beanie in undyed cashmere for $275.

The collection is available at the flagship as well as online and the exhibition will remain at the store through Dec. 1.
