Stellantis Sold Over 78,000 Dead Cars In 2024

There are few things I love more than year-end sales reports. I just get such a kick out of seeing how things sold and what sorts of long-dead vehicles are still showing up on sales sheets. Every automaker has some stragglers, but no one is better at selling discontinued vehicles than Stellantis.

In 2024, Stellantis sold 1,303,570 vehicles across its six brands in the U.S. Of those cars, 78,132 were discontinued before the 2024 model year. Yet, they kept showing up. The vast majority – 61,504 to be exact – were from the Dodge Charger and Challenger. Both of those cars were discontinued at the very end of the 2023 model year. Still, nine vehicles that weren’t technically on sale in 2024 ended up on this year-end sheet. That means about six percent of all cars Stellantis sold last year were zombies.

Here they are, in all their glory:

Chrysler 300 – 5,295 (Discontinued in 2023)

Dodge Caravan – 2 (Discontinued in 2020)

Dodge Challenger – 27,056 (Discontinued in 2023)

Dodge Charger – 34,448 (Discontinued in 2023)

Dodge Dart – 1 (Discontinued in 2016)

Dodge Viper – 1 (Discontinued in 2017)

Jeep Cherokee – 2,839 (Discontinued in 2023)

Jeep Renegade – 8,440 (Discontinued in 2023)

Ram ProMaster City – 50 (Discontinued in 2022)

To me, the real hero of this list is the one guy who bought a brand-new Dodge Viper in 2024. That is a baller move, and I hope they’re rewarded by the driving Gods with great roads and zero traffic for years to come. With that being said, I would like to know what sort of animal bought a Dodge Dart brand new in 2024. I remember making a joke about this years ago, and it’s even more wild in 2024. I just hope they got a great deal.

Of course, the Charger, Challenger and 300 do get a bit of an asterisk. After all, those cars were being produced until late December of 2023, so of course they were going to have a lot of sales in 2024. Still, they’re dead, and I am not a benevolent god when it comes to selling old cars. Don’t be surprised if we see a ton of these cars end up on next year’s list as well. Dodge still has a ton sitting around. Dodge didn’t break out Charger Daytona EV sales in its 2024 report, but a spokesperson for the automaker tells me the company delivered 306 Charger Daytonas to company employees. Going forward in 2025, the sales will be broken out into a separate category.

If we take a look at Dodge by itself, 61,508 out of its 141,730 sales were from zombie cars. That means more than 43 percent of all of the cars Dodge sold in 2024 were killed off before the year even began. That’s astonishing. Hopefully, Dodge can right the ship in 2025, but who really knows at this point?
