AI-Powered SpotlightAI™ 3.0 Enhances Efficiency and Accuracy for Humanitarian Mine Action
Safe Pro Group Inc. (Nasdaq: SPAI), a provider of artificial intelligence (AI) solutions focused on drone imagery analysis, has announced the launch of SpotlightAI 3.0. This latest version of its AI solution, powered by Amazon Web Services (AWS), is currently in use in Ukraine, supporting international humanitarian mine action (HMA) organizations and government bodies in detecting explosive remnants of war (ERW).
Surpassing Milestones in Imagery Analysis
As of October 2024, Safe Pro AI’s SpotlightAI has processed over 757,516 drone images in Ukraine. This analysis has confirmed the presence of more than 6,151 explosive remnants of war across 3,135 hectares (over 7,700 acres). Utilizing AWS’s hyper-compute technology, SpotlightAI processes each image in less than 0.2 seconds. This rapid speed significantly outperforms traditional methods that rely on human analysts, who may take several minutes per image. The new technology, therefore, offers a critical solution to Ukraine’s landmine crisis. According to the Ukraine Rapid Damage and Needs Assessment Report, about 17 million hectares are contaminated with explosive ordnance.
SpotlightAI’s capabilities have the potential to drastically improve the speed and efficiency of ERW detection compared to manual analysis. “Our mission in Ukraine to support saving lives and the safe return of land denied to civilian use due to the risk of landmines and unexploded ordnance continues to evolve,” stated Dan Erdberg, Chairman and CEO of Safe Pro Group Inc. “We have responded with SpotlightAITM 3.0, a major advancement for the global demining community.”
Advancements and Features of SpotlightAI 3.0
SpotlightAI 3.0 introduces several new capabilities, designed to enhance the safety and efficiency of mine-clearing operations:
- 3D Modeling: The system now supports high-resolution 3D modeling of uploaded surveys, providing a “street-level view” of terrain and identified objects.
- Enhanced AI Model: Built on a larger dataset, the updated AI model includes thousands of additional real-world samples, improving accuracy and increasing the detection of “true positives” while minimizing “false positives.”
Leveraging AWS Hyper Scalability for Small Object Detection
SpotlightAI operates as a hyper-scalable, cloud-based platform utilizing AWS technology. It employs advanced machine learning (ML) algorithms to analyze drone imagery collected by Commercial-off-the-Shelf (COTS) drones. Safe Pro AI’s proprietary dataset allows the software to identify over 150 different types of landmines, unexploded ordnance (UXO), and other explosive remnants. SpotlightAI uses AWS’s scalability to process large volumes of imagery quickly and securely, producing detailed orthomosaic maps that highlight areas of interest. The system provides customizable, GPS-tagged, sub-centimeter-level maps, delivering enhanced situational awareness to aid organizations and governments in their land-clearing operations.
Erdberg further explained, “Working closely with humanitarian and government stakeholders in Ukraine, we have been processing massive amounts of valuable real-world data. This collaboration has allowed us to deliver the most advanced AI models designed to analyze drone-based imagery, supporting the global effort to address the unprecedented landmine crisis in Ukraine.”
Public Awareness and Resources
To raise awareness of the global mine crisis, Safe Pro AI publishes real-time data on landmines and explosive items detected in Ukraine through its drone imagery analysis platform. The data counter, accessible at https://safeproai.com/landmine-detections/, provides up-to-date information on the results of their efforts in Ukraine.
A case study on SpotlightAI’s performance, highlighting its use in Ukraine, has been featured by AWS as a Partner Success Story. Safe Pro AI also offers a video overview of the system’s capabilities, showcasing its application as a global demining tool.
