Sporty & Rich CEO Obadia Exits Brand

Emily Oberg is returning to the helm of Sporty & Rich, the brand she founded in 2018.

On Tuesday, the company said David Obadia, the brand’s Paris-based chief executive officer and managing director, has exited his position “to pursue new projects.” No further explanation was given and the company did not respond to requests for additional information.

Obadia joined Sporty & Rich in 2018, overseeing design, collection development, production, distribution, wholesale, retail, e-commerce management and overall brand strategy. Under his tutelage, Sporty & Rich grew to more than 200 wholesale accounts and opened flagships in New York, Los Angeles, Shanghai and Seoul while launching several high-profile collaborations with Adidas, and Lacoste and hotels including Le Bristol and Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc.

“It was a pleasure for me to work together with Emily Oberg the last seven years and I’m forever grateful for this partnership. She has a very unique talent and I’m sure she will lead Sporty & Rich to the next phase in the early future,” Obadia said.

Oberg was born in Calgary, Alberta, and moved to New York in 2015 to work at Complex Magazine. While there, she began developing Sporty & Rich, a collection of vintage-inspired sportswear, that began life as a mood board and launched via an Instagram account. Since then it has built a brand for women, men and kids that spans apparel, accessories, footwear and beauty.
