On the back of an LVMH Prize nomination, Sinéad O’Dwyer wanted to show her size- and body-positive vision not only exists in the fashion bubble but also in the real world.
It’s about the balance between sensuality and pragmatism. Her signature lace design, a key feature ensuring her pieces can fit a wide range of bodies, could still be seen on dresses, bodysuits, and leggings, as well as tight high boots created in collaboration with Grounds from Japan as nods to traditional Irish dancing shoes.
It’s encouraging to see that O’Dwyer also played around with the concept of a shirt, a wardrobe archetype that’s often associated with the workplace.
A buttoned white shirt, paired with bubble shorts, was cut tastefully to accommodate the bust. A more glossy orange one, meanwhile, added piped trims to accentuate the female body.
She also considered pieces for scenarios where the freedom to express one’s body had to cave into the temperature or social norms. Such as the leather cape seen on the opening look and cashmere blend blazers in black and burgundy.
Still, there were plenty of bold, fun statement pieces for O’Dwyer’s faithful followers, including criss-cross harnessed dresses, squiggle knits, and miniskirts with metal details resembling a sex toy.
