Selena Gomez was glamorous in Zuhair Murad during her appearance on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” on Tuesday. She promoted the fourth season of her Emmy-nominated series “Only Murders in the Building” with costars Steve Martin and Martin Short.
Her midi dress from Zuhair Murad’s pre-fall 2024 collection featured a high slit and off-the-shoulder design. In her review, WWD’s Rhonda Richford described the collection as “infused with an air of dark academia, as the designer toned down his usually wildly inventive use of color with a lineup built on black.”
The Lebanese designer’s recent collections have featured a more monochrome palette. Murad’s shimmery silver and gold 2024 spring couture collection paid tribute to Phoenicia, the ancestor of modern-day Lebanon. The brand’s 2024 fall couture collection also featured sparkling ensembles in a darker, more dramatic color palette.
It’s Gomez’s latest appearance in all-black following her arrival on the Toronto International Film Festival red carpet on Monday wearing Anine Bing. After monochrome hues had a major moment on the runways of Gucci, Chloé and Carven during their spring 2024 presentations, shades of black and white have made their way to the red carpet. Pared-down palettes were popular among attendees during awards season, with stars like Jennifer Lawrence, Carey Mulligan and Keri Russell embracing the trend at the Golden Globes and the Oscars.
For her late show appearance, Gomez wore her hair down in natural waves and accentuated her dress with shimmery chandelier earrings, sparkling rings and black Christian Louboutin pumps with straps that curved around the mid-foot.
She showed that she could keep up with comic legends. “Look at how great all of you look,” Fallon said to the trio. “Thank you,” Gomez responded. “You know, there’s this constant radiant glow that I get from Steve and Marty. And then one day, I realized it was just their iPhone lights still on in their pockets.”
After more than 20 years in the industry, Gomez was recently nominated for her first acting Emmy. Her Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series nomination.
Country singer Lainey Wilson was the musical guest that night. She first sat for an interview in a patchwork denim suit. She performed “4x4xU” from her new album “Whirlwind,” wearing a dark brown cowboy hat, bronze fringed top and dark denim jeans.
