Scottie Scheffler can join Tiger Woods in PGA Tour History this week

We are reaching absurd stages with Scottie Scheffler these days, so much so that the only comparison that makes any sort of sense (even if it doesn’t) is Tiger Woods. He has been that dominant across the PGA Tour and professional golf at large.

While Scheffler did not win his last start in the Charles Schwab he did win the two before that in the CJ CUP and, no big deal, the PGA Championship. He has 3 majors to his name, a gold medal and all sorts of statistics and accolades that are decorating a career which probably hasn’t even hit its actual prime yet.

It is for this reason that the comparisons to Tiger often get thrown out. When someone dominates the world of golf, or anything really, Woods is referenced because of how he did so for so long. Scottie is not Tiger, but this is simply the territory that he has reached relative to his peers at the moment.

Scottie has a chance to join Tiger on a pretty exclusive list this week, though. Golf is having a rather busy week with national championships wrapping up on the collegiate level and the U.S. Women’s Open happening in the women’s game, but the men are partaking in the Memorial which is one of the PGA Tour’s signature (no pun intended) events.

Scheffler is the defending champion at the Memorial Tournament and a win would obviously be a successful title defense. It is here that he can join Woods as Tiger is the only player to ever win the event consecutive times (Woods actually won it three times in a row from 1999-2001).

The comparisons to Tiger are only going to continue to grow for Scottie as he keeps on winning. Should he go back to back at Jack’s place then there will be all the more reason to.
