Samuel Ross to Debut Sculptural Installation with The Balvenie at Milan Design Week

LONDON — Designer Samuel Ross will debut Transposition, an immersive sculptural environment installation with Scotch whisky maker The Balvenie at the upcoming Milan Design Week on April 8 via his industrial design studio SR_A.

Billed as an exploration of form, encapsulating fashion, industrial design and fine art, Transposition is a site-specific work featuring elevated copper sculptures that aim to capture the spirit of distillation as an artistic statement.

The brand said the work is designed to bridge the legacy of rare craft practices passed down through generations at The Balvenie with a contemporary lens, creating an experience that hopes to redefine the boundaries of hospitality and design.

“Transposition is a collision between two worlds. Between the elements and the man-made. Between craft and industry. The works, and sculptural environment of Transposition, will change your relationship with what you are tasting on site,” Ross said.

Ross’ multidisciplinary talent has been well demonstrated over the years.

He has designed many things from perfume bottles to faucets. And ever since he sold his conceptual streetwear brand A Cold Wall, he’s been dedicating a heavy half of his focus on becoming an industrial designer.

After capturing the public’s attention at Design Miami/ Paris with his bright yellow Caucus Park bench, he took on Milan Design Week last year with a collaboration with U.S.-based kitchen and bath firm Kohler, where he gave one of the most essential fixtures of all time — a toilet — a unique spin.

At the same time, Ross experimented with a bold, new fashion model that’s not dependent on wholesale with a multiyear partnership with Zara. He unveiled his first collection for Zara at the beginning of this year in Paris.
